What Is A Georgia Certificate of Title Bond?
The Georgia Certificate of Title Bond is a surety bond required by the Georgia Department of Revenue when you can’t provide standard proof of ownership for a title application. This bond is also known as the Georgia Lost Title Bond, or the Georgia Bonded Title Bond.
Who Needs the Bond?
You need this bond if you’re missing your Georgia title, never received one from a seller, have a title with a defect, or are applying for a bonded title for any other reason Georgia requires one.
Why Is the Bond Required?
It protects prior owners, lienholders, and later purchasers from financial loss if someone else comes forward with a valid competing claim to the vehicle during the bond’s 4-year term.
How Much Does the Bond Cost?
The bond amount is set at 2× your vehicle’s average retail value, with a $5,000 minimum — this is not the premium you pay. This is a one-time premium (the bond does not renew), and through our Instant Issue platform it starts as low as $100. Your price is confirmed in the portal before you complete payment.
What You’ll Need Besides the Bond
Along with your bond, Georgia requires the MV-1 Title Application, a notarized MV-46A affidavit, and a T-22B law enforcement inspection before your County Tag Office can issue your bonded title. Instant Issue gets you the bond quickly — these additional steps still take time.
